That is an interesting article.
I just picked up a Courier and saw no bylines of yours. I hope that was just a matter of taking some time off for Christmas and not punishment.

I also noticed that over the long weekend, thanks to another "Howellanche", that I have passed you by on hits.

The last article was pretty draining and I was mostly working on the 50th anniversary issue stuff last week. Should have a bunch of articles with the reorganization meetings.

And yes, I noted your hits victory. Not too shabby at all.

I'm starting to hear people make-up far-fetched theories as to your true identity.

Like a superhero, Jackie. It must never be revealed. Super powers and all that, you know.;-}

I fully agree. Your anonymity allows you certain independence that us "named" bloggers can't quite have.

Some of the theories that I've heard are that I'm Fred Niemann, Wally Edge(!), Dan Gallic or Joe DiBella. I even heard that I was you!
I remain anonymous because, in addition to the independence it allows me, it also doesn't identify me with any one part of the county, i. e., Western Monmouth, Bayshore, Coastal, etc. Also I can travel freely at events like Lincoln Day, the Finance Gala or a Federation luncheon or Affiliated dinner. I try to keep my finger on the pulse and my ear to the ground; sometimes it's better when people don't realize they're talking to Honest Abe.

Wow, that would make me totally schizo.

I like the whole "Honest Abe mystery." It definitely allows you to hear some inside information that people would run to the hills before telling me.

What I'm really curious about is whether or not you've been hearing conversations at this event or that swearing-in ceremony about your blog. It must be incredibly humorous if it happens. I know I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face. (But you don't have to answer if you feel it would disclose your identity.)

It actually has come up at political events. I'm pretty good at keeping a straight face.
The conversation where I was told I was you went like this; you'll find it pretty funny:
WELL-KNOWN BAYSHORE REPUBLICAN: So you ever check out that Republican Blog, that Honest Abe?
H.A.: Yes, I've logged on once or twice.
W.K.B.R.: You know who that is?
H.A.: No.
W.K.B.R.: It's that Jackie from the paper, you know, The Courier.
H.A.: Jackie Corley? The reporter? You're sure?
W.K.B.R.: Read it. You can't disguise a writing style. It's like DNA.
H.A.: You don't say!
W.K.B.R.: Yeah, I don't know, I guess she created the Honest Abe character to be some sort of a counterpoint to her blog.
H.A.: I don't know.
W.K.B.R.: Trust me, I know these things.

I've also actually heard that I'm Jim Purcell or Terrence Wall!

That is absolutely hysterical. I take it as a big compliment, actually. I think you're much more measured in your commentary than I am (I've stuck my foot in my mouth more than a few times on this thing). I'm 23 and I think my writing definitely reveals that.

1) When it comes to computers, Purcell is purely a word processing guy. When he wants to visit your, site Matt and I have to shout across the room "GOP HYPHEN OF HYPHEN MC, etc..."

2) You've made your support for Serena DiMaso as clear as Terence Wall has made his opposition to her.

But these theories will keep coming. I know I've had a couple people ask me what I know about you and we've speculated about various clues in the office. It just makes the whole thing a lot more fun and it's gotta give you a chuckle to be the talk of the town (and actually hear the talk getting back to you).

My support for Mayor DiMaso is based more upon respect for the way she's conducted herself. She has a tough job ahead of her. Part of it will be preventing Holmdel from "going Howell". I actually haven't made my mind up who to support; fortunately for me as a non-committeeperson I have no final say in the matter.
I think Lew Alcindor's take on Joe DiBella in his most recent post is accurate. If he can get past the pettiness of the Jerry Springer Show-esque Howell politics, he has great potential.
